Tommy Thayer with
Traditions Arnold Palmer Education Fund Scholarship Recipient, Chelsea

Desert Scholarship Foundation is blessed to have volunteers help is all facets of our organization. Volunteers make up our Board of Directors, Scholarship Fund Committee Members, Applicant Review Volunteers and Donors. All of our supporters give of themselves, selflessly, without asking for anything in return. Like Mr. Thayer, they all believe in the power of education. For years, Mr. Thayer has spearheaded the signature fundraising event, “Tommy and Friends” at Tradition Golf Club to raise money to support scholarship awards gifted through Tradition’s Arnold Palmer Education Fund. His gift of time, talent and treasure is valued. Thank you, for everything, Mr. Thayer.

Below is Mr. Thayer’s letter of gratitude to all those who have also supported Tradition’s Arnold Palmer Education Fund.

My involvement with Tradition’s Arnold Palmer Education Fund as a board member and as host of our premier fundraising event “Tommy and Friends,” has been an experience I’ve continued to enjoy.
With the generous support of Tradition’s membership, the fund is dedicated to honoring Mr. Palmer’s vision of making higher education a reality for Tradition’s employees and their children.
The most gratifying part is to actually see our work come to fruition each spring at the Scholarship Award Reception. Excitement and gratitude fill the clubhouse when recipients receive their scholarships. It’s a great moment for the students, their parents, and the Tradition membership to experience together.
For eight years we’ve granted hundreds of scholarships sending students to colleges and trade schools across the country graduating with degrees in business, health professions, computer science, education, engineering, and others. Almost all say they would have never had the opportunity to go to college without the support of Tradition’s Arnold Palmer Education Fund.
I’ve always felt providing educational assistance to a young person can open the road to their future, but also to society as a whole. Nelson Mandela famously said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I whole-heartedly agree.
Thank you again for your support,
Tommy Thayer
